Xclaim! Performance Academy provides pre-professional experience and training to youth and adults in a variety of performance genres meant to provide skills for stage performers. Classes meet once per week for one hour each (WEE Theatre meets 45 minutes) for the entire semester - August 12 - November 26.
ACTING - Ages 7-Adult.
Course focuses primarily on building skills for stage performance with emphasis on deep understanding of character, physical control, mental focus, and building intensity of emotion onstage.
YOUTH ACTING - Ages 7-10 Mondays 5:30p-6:30p
TWEEN ACTING - Ages 10-13 Tuesdays 5:30p-6:30p
TEEN/ADULT ACTING - Ages 13 - Adults Wednesdays 5:30p-6:30p
Acting classes perform THE HALLOWEEN SCREAM - Oct. 24 & 25
Students must obtain instructor approval to register for a class time outside their age group.
DANCE - Ages 7-18. Tuesdays 6:30p-7:30p
Group exercises in strength, flexibility, rhythm & musicality prepare students for floor exercises and drills meant to teach dance steps & combinations used most frequently in musical theatre and Broadway productions. Basic technique and vocabulary will be taught through short combinations and class choreography. This unique mix of dance styles prepares musical theatre performers. Students in dance class need proper jazz dance shoes, tap dance shoes and should keep their hair pulled back out of their face and secured.
Dance class final recital - Tuesday, Nov. 26
VOICE - Ages 7-Adult. Wednesdays 4:30p-5:30p
Group exercises and vocal drills teach blending, vocal control, tone purity and breath control. Focus on proper vocal technique to ensure healthy singing! Individual vocal assignments will challenge personal growth and teach solo techniques used by professional vocalists & Broadway musical theatre performers.
Voice class final performance - Caroling TBD early December
WEE Theatre - Ages 4-6. Tuesdays 4:45p-5:30p
Games & activities featuring children’s songs, rhymes & fairy tales will teach motor control, listening, following instructions and teamwork. Stage concepts include facing the audience and speaking loudly and clearly.

COMMERCIAL PROMOS- Ages 9-Adult. Mondays 4:30p-5:30p
Course features a rigorous schedule of filming promotional videos for upcoming Xclaim! events and some PSA's for new Xclaim! students. These videos will be featured on the Xclaim! website and through social media campaigns.

Christopher H. Cherry is founding Executive Director of Xclaim, Inc., a non-profit performance arts organization providing unique performance opportunities for youth. This Bowling Green, KY native is no stranger to local arts and youth programs. He graduated Western Kentucky University, Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Performing Arts with concentrations in Musical Theatre & Directing. Cherry directed the Sunburst Youth Theatre as Director of Education for Public Theatre of Kentucky for 5 years and then founded the Capitol Arts Youth Theatre, for which he served as Artistic Director for more than 3 years. He served 2-year positions as Theatre-Artist-in-Residence for Kaleidoscope, a positive youth development program, and as an ambassador for the Youth Alliance, both in Bowling Green. Cherry also served on the board of directors for Fountain Square Players, Bowling Green's community theatre, for 3 years.
Christopher has worked on more than 500 productions as director, choreographer, stage manager & actor for professional theatre companies in Philadelphia, Louisville, Nashville and Atlanta. He has taught youth classes, workshops and private lessons in acting, auditioning, movement, musical theatre, technical theatre, and voice & diction for stage for 25 years.
Many of his students are seeking professional degrees or working theatre professionals, commercial actors or models for runway and print. Christopher strongly believes that young people should be valued as artists and given support, training and encouragement for their artistic aspirations.
